There's more to do during the holidays in Knoxville than just hayrides in horseshoes. Knoxville has a culture that has a heavy emphasis on family and community, December is one of the most active months of the year.
Today I'm going to share with you some of the most popular things to do during the holidays in Knoxville.
Hello everyone and I hope you're having a great day.
Just so you know, this list is not all-encompassing. If you're in the area and would like a more comprehensive list of things to do, be sure to click to get access to our local event calendar and find out all of the things you can do in Knoxville during the Christmas Holidays.
1. The first event I want to tell you about is The Festival of Lights at Concord Marina. This is basically a park full of yard ornaments and Christmas decorations along a trail. It's gorgeous and it's on the water as well. I did a video about Concord Marina which you can watch here. Besides lights and company, there is usually food vendors, music, a roaming Santa to take photos with, and this event is every day except Christmas Day and ends on the 31st.
2. The next event (and something I really want to go to but I haven't yet) is a Christmas Carol, the play done by the playhouse Clarence Brown Theatre.
This event starts on December 1st and goes until December 21st. Tickets prices varied by the date and time. The Clarence Brown Theatre is the major theatre used by theater students at UT Campus.
(side note - when I decided I was too cool to play sports and I wanted to be a "rebel" in high school, I did theater for 2 years as a way to meet girls.....I was horrible on stage)
This is actually the 3rd year doing the play for the public and locally it has raving reviews. You need to check it out.
3. The next event is an Elf in the Park or Elf On the Shelf Adventures in the Market Square. This is actually an ongoing scavenger hunt that the local businesses participate in. You basically pick up the map and as you find the elves, you can take photos and post them on Instagram using the hashtag #ElvesInKnox.
It's a ton of fun as you shop, sightsee, grab some food, and hang out with family.
4. So we all know that with Christmas gathering also comes family and sometimes that environment can get stressful. So there's no better way to take a break from that by going to a comedy show. Now this one isn't holiday related but I liked the idea of adding it so I threw it in there.
If you want to take a break from family tension or from a typical holiday routine, you can go to Scruffy City and check out a comedy show or improv show while having an adult beverage with loved ones. After the show, continue the party on their rooftop bar.
5. Starting Nov 29th and ending Jan 5th is Ice Skating in the Park. Down in Market Square (which happens to be where the last few events are held) you'll find an ice-skating ring in the center of the square where you can spend $11 for adults, $8 for kids, or get a season pass for $50 and $35 respectfully.
Do you ice-skate? Tell me about your first experience below?
I know I did once, when I was very young. I have a faint memory of falling a lot but the details of the experience escape me. I know it was in Maryland though......what about you?
6. Next on the list is the Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis. This is actually done nationally across many cities but we host a sister event here in Knoxville. It's a 5k run, a 1-mile walk, and everyone where ugly Xmas sweaters and Santa hats and has a good time raising money for arthritis. It runs in the downtown Knoxville area and the event date is December 14th.
7. I can't mention Christmas in Knoxville without telling yo about Smoky Mountain Christmas in Dollywood. I'll be sharing a video of me and family at Dollywood from the summer, but this is about Christmas and Christmas is special. The park decorates every inch of it for Christmas. It's gorgeous. Dollywood is a theme park and I'll give you more information on it in a future video. But for now, I'll tell you that it's a ton of fun. It's family-friendly, has roller coasters, great food, history, and more.
Okay, so that's Christmas events in Knoxville. Are you dying to come down to my town and enjoy the holidays?
